Proof that spiritual films can also be big box office, possibly ( in my opinion) inspired Mel Gibson years later to make "The Passion." "The Gladiator" is in fact (probably un-intentionally) partly a Christ-metaphor- a noble man anointed to rule and reign but through treachery becomes a slave, defeats the evil 'god' of this world and gives his life to advance freedom, the Kingdom and people he loves.
