Read MoreThis supposedly is based on a true story except that U.S. Sailors DID NOT capture the Enigma - it was captured by the British. The producer somehow saw fit to overlook this VERY important fact that the story is based on (oh brother). Secondly, as a U.S. Navy veteran I am appalled at the shouting of commands in the sub, to each other, and through sound powered phone circuits...from experience, one wouldn't be able to hear anything after someone yelled at you through sound powered phones...realism? Gimme a break. Thirdy, the depth charge scenes are downright ridiculous.
This movie is nothing but noise and over acting by everyone. If you want to see a good sub movie, watch "Hunt For Red October" or "Das Boot".

I put this movie right up there with Run Silent Run Deep, Hunt for Red October, and some of the other submarine flicks. Nothing profound and fairly predictable, but still well done. work renting. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Read MoreFound this a great movie with a lot of action and suspense. It is so real that you actually feel inside the sub with all the fear and anxiety that these men went through. You get first hand exposure to what goes on in submarines in war time. Well acted, excellent cinematography plus it portrays an interesting aspect of World War II and the bravery of our men. I love War movies. This is one of best I have ever seen. You are hanging on the edge of your seat all the way to the end. If you like the cold war, check it out, this really happened. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Pure Hollywood for a an average American viewers. But most of the people never read the books or know nothing about the stories so some movies like this one may fly. One half of a star. Note that this "U-571: Special Edition [HD]" is an "HD DVD", which is a new hi-res format - it but can not be played on "standard" DVD players. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
