Read More My favorite movies are those that have a lot going on below the surface. While this is, at first glance, a psycho-killer movie, there is so much more to American Psycho. An underlying message and a great twist ending give enormous food for thought and excellent opportunities to discuss the possibilities. Read More As someone who has read every published novel by Bret Easton Ellis, I can honestly say this film surpasses the depiction of Patrick Batemen in the book. I guess that is because Christian Bale is such a brilliant actor.
If you haven't yet seen the movie--read the novel first--actually read all of Bret Easton Ellis' works. His novels make for great summer reading about spoiled youth gone wrong. He may have written his books in the late 80's to early 90's but can't we relate nowadays in the age of "Girls Gone Wild"?
Read the books, then rent "Less Than Zero", "American Psycho", and "The Rules of Attraction"(based on The Informers). All are great adaptations, but nothing is better than the real thing. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

What a FREAK!!! I can't see Christian Bale in a suit w/out thinking of him in this movie.

Beware that this is exactly what it says "unsettling drama with black comic overtones".... If you paid attention there, you'll get the movie and you'll enjoy it. Read More If Only I could watch the movie from start to finish without having to go back and TRY to see the part it skiped. I can not watch this movie because the incompetent staff at Blockbuster continue to put malfunctioning disks in the sleves and then send them out. Please people when you have a bad disk, indicate that on the return envelope. But you can even do this and they will still mock you by putting in another bad disk. Though I give it 2 stars, I don't believe it's worthy of my ever watching it again. Perhaps my mistake was reading the book first. Or, perhaps the mistake was the director toning down the material to fit an R-rating. After reading it, I expected some major carnage on-screen; in fact, I wondered how in the heck they would recreate some of what he did.
