I kept asking myself during this movie, "How did so many good actors get talked in to making this piece of garbage?" The story line is ridiculous, the acting is some of the worst of the careers represented here, and the special effects are done better by teenagers with laptops. Horrific. I would almost go so far as to recommend you see it just to enjoy the stupidity of it. You should get it, curl up next to a fire with a bucket of popcorn and when it is over, throw it in the fire and watch it burn. Really, really, really bad story line - missing scientist on Mars, so a crew is rushed to save them (would never happen), they dance, drink lots of Dr. Pepper and listen to Van Halen in the future, and end up crashing. Big surprise. They should pay attention when going on a freaking rescue mission. The ending is STUPID and just caps the whole thing off with a climatic, moronic end.

One of the best movies involving future space travel that I've seen, with everything pretty much seeming plausible (at least in an action movie sort of way), until very late in the movie, then it goes into the realm of strictly sci-fi, but very nicely done, with great sensitivity, making it easier to believe- that is, if your inclined to think open-mindedly about such things. And it seems any scene with Sinise in it is a good scene just because he's in it, he has a low key charisma that enhances every scene he's in. This movie's also good if your get bored with take-off and landing scenes - there aren't any in this movie. All of a sudden your out in space "a hundred million miles" away (although I don't thnk that could be right, with sun being only 93 miliion miles away, right?) No footage wasted on a take-off scene, but the way it's done, you don't really miss it - there are bigger stories being told here, and scenes like that would in a way seem superfluous.

I just had to write a review for this movie because it contains one of the best movie lines ever: "That DNA looks human!" Oh, the scientist in me shudders at the gross inaccuracy (and anyone who even knows what DNA is at all should too). Getting past such details (for which there were several), the movie was good, had impressive special effects and good acting. The storyline was a little unbelievable, but hey, its science fiction right?

This movie is underated, and it harkens back to movies like 2001; A Space Oddessy; only faster paced. Realistic technology, and an attempt at having deeper meaning.

Extremely hokey ending (will not divulge it here). Rest of movie is interesting, keeps you watching. Not too bad language & no sex, so okay for families.

Actors were good, the subject matter was good, but ithey could have cut 45 mins. off this thing. The movie was just to slow.

I got this just for Gary Sinise; the story was OK, but really slow-moving and really corny in some parts. Middle of the road rental.

Excellent Movie and Super Movie Sets....The Ride at Disney...Mission Space was Modeled after this movie, you can see many of the props used in the movie inside the ride....as a note....in the scene where Tim Robbins saves the ship with the GVS Repair Applicator, I bought that prop off a Disney auction....What a Find!....So when you watch the movie, remember that that tool is sitting on my desk right now in NewTampa Fl. 33647....interesting.....

First of all, the special effects were good, it was the plot that was lame mostly because it was trying to be a PC movie.
