One of the most beautiful films of all time. A timeless love story set in the fascinating setting of the antebellum south. A must see for everyone.

Before I rented this movie, I bought the book and sat down to the most enjoyable read I have ever had. The movie is almost as good as the book. I love the history of this movie, but I also love the character of Scarlett in contrast to the character of Melanie...one girl is totally self serving, the other is too goodie goodie to be beieved. I would love to have Scarlett's character and strength of determination, but I'd also love to have Melanie's soothing and gentle kindness and consideration. I don't believe that this movie is about the darn war, for me the movie was about 2 women as opposite as night and day but both being equal sides of 1 coin in their friendship and devotion to one another. Well that and their love for that lame Ashley Wilkes!

The performances are excellent; sets and costumes gorgeous. My main complaint is that the story sentimentalized slavery and a way of life made possible by human suffering. I hoped that there was more to the special features. Also, Sherman gave Atlanta leaders a chance to cooperate and they refused. Savannah cooperated and was spared. He said he wanted to make war such a horrible experience that no one would ever want to engage in it again. But it is entertainment and not history. Good for an evening in with comfort foods and a box of Kleenex.

I watched this movie with my mom and it tells a story about a young girl in 1863 named Scarlet'o'Hara. It tells the story of most of her life.It was in he time that black people were slaves and the war came between the yankees, who thought blacks should be treated equally, and the people from plantations who thought differently Scarlet lived on a plantaion.I cried almost the whole movie because of how beautiful and complex it is.It is also a story of triumph, and love and i absolutly loved it!!!

Being a high school student, this movie was on my list to watch for my History Honors class. I just want to thank Ms. Blanks for listing this movie. It shows the viewpoint of the south on the civil war and the reconstruction. Although it isn't based on straight facts, I understand that there are some stereotypes and historical liberties the producers took on with this film. But other than that, it is a great film and if anyone can sit and watch what our ansestors had to go through for our freedom for four hours, I think they will agree with me in saying this is a GREAT FILM!!!

Had Bette Davis' movie Jezebel been in color and more money put into it -- it would have far outshone this movie. Scarlett O'Hara is an annoying brat who cared for no one but herself. Bette Davis' "Jezebel" was a *itch but she didn't pretend under a sickening facade of sugar. Even the romance is so Scarlett loves Scarlett that I don't see how people classify this as romance. And who in their right mind would believe someone moping over Ashley Wilkes when Clark Gable was after them -- unbelieveable! :) And pardon me for not being able to sympathize with "how hard" life was post civil war for a Southern belle when I know for a fact that my great-grandparents and grandparents were literally starving and being lynched. Sorry, I did try to enjoy it for what it was and for the beauty of the photography. Over the years have watched it more than once to see if I was missing what everyone's been talking about but...
