This movie is worth all the talk over the decades. It's very long, but I didn't have any complaint about that while I was watching.

Seventy years old movie, and still around. This says everything. When you see movies from the fifties and sixties, you can see many problems with them, not with this movie, the acting is good, the production one of the best, and in general it is a superb movie. I just saw the new Brad Pitt movie (adult to children), with almost three hours, and it was boring in many moments because it is toooo long. Gone with the wind does not have any moment that you are not interested and it is longer than that one.

This is certainly one of the LLLOOONNNNNGGGGGGest movies I have ever sat through. But entertaining. People clamoring about racism etc. should try keeping in mind the historic age the action took place in. Trying to imagine a movie made about the Civil War without slavery etc. would be like trying to make a movie about Rome without the militaristic imperialism--can't be done. Visually it was quite something for a movie made in 1939--may not have the effects of Terminator or Lord of the Rings, but certainly carries the load respectably. If my mom didn't want to watch this on her new HDTV (PS--get the Collector's Edition because of the digital sound and upgraded visuals), I probably never would have seen the whole thing. A giant boring classic, but way better than, for instance, Citizen Kane--way more boring and not nearly as much fun. And remember, tomorrow is another day.....

I enjoyed this movie. Worth watching if you don't mind giving up about 4 hours. I am glad I watched it.

Folks, I love classic movies but I just can't get into this one. It's not the racism or the subject. I am actually quite an enthusiastic Civil War buff. My problem is that the movie is just plain boring. Three better movies were made in the same year (1939): Stagecoach, Wizard of Oz, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Watch one of those instead.
