Read More I watched this movie once by myself, again with my husband, and again with ny husband an in-laws. I enjoyed at thoroughly all three times- as did my family. ( we can't all be wrong) Michael Douglas is an author with writer's block who goes through a series of humorous circumstances with his students Katie Holmes ( who is in love with him), Tobey Maguire ( who is obsessed with death) , and his editor Robert Downey Jr.( who has the hots for Toby.) Douglas's character is very well developed. Several places will make you laugh out loud! ( although the humor is a little dark) The soundtrack alone is worth watching the movie for. Do yourself a favor and rent this movie- it hasn't gotten near the recognition it deserves! A true sleeper film! Just goes to show that it doesn't have to be on the top 10 list to be a great movie. I'm a sucker in general for literary movies, and also for cinematography. Some of the lighting is just beautiful, especially in the darker scenes where they have no fill at all (light on one side of the face). The characters are unapologetic and entertaining. But why oh why that ending? It was an incredible cop out of an ending and ruined the whole movie for me. Literally as soon as it cut to the computer I got up, flustered, and barely could stand to watch it to the credits. With a great ending this could have been a 4 and a half or a 5 star. Now I have to decide between 3 or 3 and a half. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Robert Downey Jr is always entertaining, and the rest of the cast kept up their end ot the deal. The story is a little bizarre, with odd twists like "Vernon the black jockey" who just wants his car back and the decision to put the dog in the various places that it ends up. I thought I was going to hate it, but found myself actually enjoying the story. Worth a rental! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
