I was very disappointed in it. Just felt like it went around and around with no particular destination. In my opinion it wasn't a fraction as good as Crash or even Babel (which I thought was also a great movie - similar category). I wouldn't recommend Magnolia to anyone. Anderson seemed to set out to make the "Great American Movie" with this one... and came very close to suceeding. The moral of this film obviously is that nothing is by chance, everything happens for a reason, and frogs may rain down on you quite inexplicably one day if you don't watch out (see the movie, draw your own symbolic meaning about the frogs).
Fine acting all around, particularly by Tom Cruise, William H. Macy and in a hauntingly brilliant final performance, Jason Robards. Not a mindles popcorn flick. Bring your brain to this one, and be prepared to actually THINK while watching a movie. You'll be glad you did. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Magnolia is a bloated, self important, boring piece of trash. You have the displeasure of spending 3 hours with the most worthless unlikeable characters in the history of cinema. This is an all star cast, and simultaneously they craft the worst film of their careers. Tom Cruise in particular is awful. The whole movie is a forced, confusing, contrived, muddled mess. The movie really has no business being this long or this boring. Clearly the director didn't know what kind of movie he wanted to make. Nor did he know what point he was trying to make. So if he didn't know, how the heck are we supposed to know or care. Magnolia is one of the most pretentious, self-indulgent pictures I have ever seen. I regret ever renting it. Most peculiar, in the climax, we get millions of dead frogs? Was that supposed to be some great meaningful revelation? to me it was stupid. Stay away from this piece of garbage! It sucks. Read More Please don't watch this movie. At the beginning, the intro makes you think that all these peoples lives are going to come together in a crazy twist of fate, but they don't. And for some reason there are frogs falling from the sky and it doesn't fit into the story (or lack of a story). Unless you are a sucker for enormous let-downs, don't waste your time on this movie. It was crap. Just goes to show, you can't judge a movie by its cast. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
