If you like deep, dark movies that make you think and evaluate life, and if you enjoy watching superb acting, then this movie is for you. There are so many twists and turns and connections with the different characters, the movie will make you cry and laugh and over-analyze... right up my alley!
p.s. How could you NOT love the scene where they all start singing "Wise Up?" Now THAT is great film-making in my opinion! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Each vignette portrayed tragedies of people whom most people think are IT/all together/have it all.We see their sadness as the same sadness all people experience. And then you see a regular policeman, who has a cross over his bed and lives alone. An nobody who interprets his job in a compassionate way makes a very big difference in many people's lives. This is Hollywood's way of portraying true priesthood and the reality of sin....that sin binds not only the sinner, but all of humanity.Tom Cruise's performance in this movie is incredible: the scope of emotion, the way he goes from one extreme to the other, and the way he almost commands that blood vessel on his forhead to pulsate just at the right moment. The music, especially how it was spliced so perfectly with the film editing was perfect as a Volkswagon commercial! If the priests would allow it, I would use this film as a tool for Young Adult Ministry---"young" pertaining to Christian maturity and not age. Tom Cruise in his underwear (God forbid). Was this a Boogie Nights reunion or what? I cannot repear the phrase "three hours" often enough. I cannot repeat the phrase "good grief" enough. I was almost glad when the little boy genius wet his pants. What was that all about? Did i say "good grief" already. I see we are limited to 1000 characters. I think that is how many there were in the cast. Too bad none of them were worth (did I already say) "three hours of our time. I can't believe the animal rights people weren't all over this one and I think I saw at least one of frogs on a beer
commercial during one of the Superbowls. Yes, a Superbowl should last three hours

I never understood how anyone could find this film boring. Thank god for Paul Thomas Anderson and his courage to step outside the box Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More If youve read any of these reviews, youve surely heard about the raining frogs scene. I understand the symbolism behind this scene, but that doesnt help the fact that the scene just doesnt fit in this film. The entire movie is realistic and completely grounded until that moment, and i found it very distracting from an otherwise excellent movie with undisputably superb performances all around.
As far as length, the movie was 3 hours but it didnt feel like that to me. No scene felt like filler and they all seemed to have a point and purpose.
This is the kind of movie you watch alone and with no interruptions. Heavily recommended. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
