Stigmata captivated me the first time I saw it on the big screen. While it deals with a phenomenon called "Stigmata" - the movie takes the notion into a whole other arena and turns it into a brilliant movie you will be glued to for 2 hours. I ended up purchasing Stigmata and have viewed it about 10 times in the past couple of years. Topics of the film include: Catholocism, Stigmata phenomenon, Demons, Heaven, Hell, religion, etc....but make NO mistake - Stigmata is set in a modern environment and plenty of club scenes, an amazing soundtrack and modern life intertwine beautifully with religious doctrines of the Catholic church and the Stigmata scenes are quite pleasing to the horror fan. For a unique horror film you will not soon forget - I recommend Stigmata - starring Gabriel Byrne. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Although it was marketed as a horror film, this is actually a critique of the Catholic Church as well as organized religion in general. The point of the film,... that each believer is their own church, and they have their own audience with God. There's no need to attend or even give to organized religion. I haven't read any reviews from religious experts, but this is a welcome discussion about belief in the vain of protestantism and Martin Luther. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More I have seen this movie twice and both times I was in total shock . This is the type of movie that if you don't pay close attention, you will not understand it. This movie puts you to think and ask yourself the question, is this possible? Can someone experience this horrific experience? I highly recommend this movie if you like to be kept in suspense and on your toes (nail biter). Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Frankie Paige doesnt fit the criteria for being blessed with the Stigmata. Im not sure a blessed is what I would call it, never-the-less the Catholic Church seems to think it is a blessing. Believe me, Frankie does not think it is a blessing at all. After receiving a package from her mother which included Rosea Beads. the Stigmatas takes over her life. Frankie who is anything but religious does not understand what and why things are happening to her. Gabriel Byrne a priest is sent on a fools mission, but gets very involved with Frankie..This is a very fast paced movie with lots of easy to follow sublets. The movie is listed as a Horror Movie, it is not. Just as The Seventh Sign was listed as a Horror, quote unquote movie, so is this film. This to is not a horror movie. Both these movies are similar as they both deal with church dogma. This is a strong film. Itâs labeled a horror film, but itâs not one in the true sense of the word. Itâs more a preview as to what might have happened when Jesus walked the earth. Itâs a possibility for us to see what organized religion doesnât want us to know. Itâs a possibility for the nonbeliever to rethink their stand and the believer to rethink what might have happened.
Either way itâs a movie that should make everyone say hmmmmmmm.
The cast was just weird enough to show that this could happen to anyone. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

This time i got up and started to do laundry while it was playing.. I didn't quite understand why they chose a hair stylist, they should of chosen someone into religion or highly against it.. I saw no connection between the character and what happening to her.. CONFUSION! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
