Jim Carrey does an excellent job of playing the part of Andy. By the end of the movie, I couldn't even tell that I wasn't watching Andy.
This movie deserved more recognition than it got. A must see to all, even if you don't know who Andy Kaufman was, you'll either love him or hate him by the end of the movie, which is the way Andy would have wanted it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It's the life story of a showman. Of course, as with all movies, much needs to be omitted and what remains is manipulated. So, setting aside accuracy, what remains is a tale of a showman who strived for something...sometimes he succeeded...sometimes he failed. This is a tale of the interactions with his audience and friends. Who can't relate to that?
WARNING: those people who can't stand moments of silence will probably fail to enjoy the film, since occasional silence and inactivity is one of the devices used during some of the performances. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Having never seen Kaufman on Taxi nor on stage, it was a hard decision of what to think of this movie. All that I could base my thoughts on was that Carrey actually morphed into another person during this movie, and I guess that person would be Kaufman. For all his faults, Kaufman was directly ahead of his peers. He made comedy a brand, something that was bizarre, outrageous, and more likely than not plain offensive. It was unpredictable. It helped that Kaufman was borderline crazy, but it was a good crazy. Carrey caught that and made it work. Kaufman's death was tragic, and the movie they made about him was as unique as he was. Bottom line: the movie didn't cost me money, but it was 2 hours of my life that I can never get back! What a total and absolute clunker! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More A superficial look at a man that apparently got his kicks off embaraasing others and making them feel uncomfortable. Yet the film never delves into the character's motivations or underpinnings. It's sort of a docu-drama on the isensitive arrogance of one individual. IF you like a story without a protagonist, and without any individual growth or triumph, then go ahead and waste your time with this film. Otherwise, there's 65,000 other options worth watching.
