John Cusack plays Myrl Redding, a horse trader who locks horns with a rancher who has callously mistreated two of his horses, as well as their handler, a Crow Indian. When the law gives Myrl no justice, he is forced to take matters into his own hands, leading to a cycle of violence and chaos. The Jack Bull was written by Cusack's father, Dick, who also plays a small part as the jury foreman in the film. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Everyone I ask does not know this movie. What a shame. One of the best westerns ever!!! Cusack and Goodman are awesome as well as great acting throughtout the cast. The cinematography is amazing. A well made film!

This is a powerful, engaging movie. It is a very different role for John Cusack and he plays it credibly. It is remarkable how so little has changed regarding the integrity of the sheriff's office, attorneys, and politicians between the frontier days and today.

EXCELLENT RELEASE BY HBO. THIS IS NOT ONLY A GREAT WESTERN MOVIE, BUT JUST AN OVERALL WONDERFUL FLICK ABOUT A GENERAL DEPICTION OF LIFE AND MISUSE OF POWER DUE TO WEALTH OR POLITICAL POSITIONS.

I agree with other post, excellent movie, it's a true story, with Hollywood additions. Not sure how much is true, nothing at ending credits explains anything. But good western, some sad moments. Cusack, excellent job. Ballard, you learned to HATE.

I love a good western. I loved the fact that he could not allow a corrupt group of politicians and a man who could buy anyone with his corrupt power and money to win without a valiant fight for justice. .

It was a good western, well acted, and I wish all judges were like John Goodman in this movie, that was awesome. I just wish it ended better, it was pretty horrible.
