What a visionary and human this man was! ... Read More How can anyone describe this unbelievable man, Ghandi was, in few words? Even the three hours my husband and I spent watching this movie were not enough! What a visionary and human this man was! Before this weekend I had no idea what his life and journey was like or who he really was. I knew very little, as much as most of us do. I knew he was a peace advocate and a strong oponent of violence, but little did I know he was an extraordinary light on humanity in this day and age. Rent it, watch it, absorb it. Read More I have seen a lot of movies -- including most of those cited by many different types of people in their best-ever lists (but then again I haven't seen all movies) -- and this is the best of the best. The acting is top-notch, the cinematography captivating, and storyline tireless. Some say 3 hours is too long (improperly giving this film a lower rating), but all historically-driven period films in my opinion must be longer than the standard 1.5 - 2 hour hollywood standard; for when covering one man's adult life and the political struggles of his cause it takes longer than 2 hours. Read More Time for a rigorous brain exercise: who really knows about Gandhi? I see a super-thin, bespectacled and smiling Indian in a white robe, probably carrying some kind of text. I knew he was some kind of religious leader, and was tragically shot dead, but otherwise, nothing else. Anything you don't know about Mohandas "Mahatma"/"Bapu" Gandhi, will be known if you watch this movie. However, stated clearly and many times before, it's a really long movie and it pretty much feels it. And because its chock full of information, a lot of people will have a hard time staying awake, especially during the duller parts. On the brighter side, however, as far as quality goes, Gandhi is very good. Excellent acting by Kingsley and a numerously full supporting cast, and great direction with a great plot. Epic?
