This movie has a lot of action in it. I liked that they protrained what a soldier would be like that would go through something like this. Is this the next step for our Special Forces Teams? Who knows. But I liked seeing the soldier in Kurt Russell start puttig together that there is a time to be a soldier and time not to be a soldier. I think it takes more acting skill to pull off a scene without saying anything, then it does just rambling off some lines. They had a decent cast that from the evil Colonel all the way down to the innocent wife. Good movie and I definitely recommend this movie. Was this review helpful? Yes

On the surface, SOLDIER is a standard-issue SF action flick, with explosions and gunfire and hand-to-hand combat. And it can be thoroughly enjoyed on that level, popcorn, Junior Mints, and all. But watch closely. There's more to it.
Todd, discarded by the only family he had and wrenched from the only life he knew, struggles to make himself useful to the crash survivors on the garbage planet in the only fashion he knows. His efforts are misunderstood, and he is banished. His later one-man war against the forces sent to attack the survivor encampment is a great action sequence, but again, watch closely. He wants to redeem himself. And his fierce sense of honor drives him to fight, alone, against his brother soldiers because "a Soldier deserves a Soldier." Yes, you can hear the capital letters when that line is delivered.
Sure, enjoy this movie as a simple popcorn flick. But pay close attention and you'll discover a hidden gem and a fine performance by Kurt Russell. Was this review helpful? Yes

This one beat out Blade Runner, in my opinion. It simply had a much better pace and was able to present a struggling colony in a way that was not overly oppressive. (You don't survive long as a pessimist in bleak situations.) Russel had a non-speaking role, and therefore it was by far one of his best. The fight scenes were rugged and realistic, not flashy and fake. The tone, pace, characters and story all together make for a surprisingly good show. (Where is this Tanhouse Gate that is mentioned in both this movie and Blade Runner?) Was this review helpful? Yes

I enjoyed it. An action genre kinda movie, but kept my interest anyway. Kurt did a pretty bang up job. Wasn't sure it was in him. The economy of dialogue was nice Was this review helpful? Yes

A real yawner and not a very well-made movie. Quite possibly Kurt Russel was the wrong actor to play an extremely stoic character and may have lead to the failure of the movie, besides the lame plot that never caught on. Was this review helpful? Yes

It has a beautiful set, accompanying visuals, and benefits from a beautifully subtle and surprisingly effective performance by Kurt Russell. Sadly the movie suffers from a less then stimulating story, some questionable acting and dialogue, and enough cliches to effectively diminish it's originality.

There are bad movies that make you cringe.
And then there are awesomely bad movies like Soldier. It has awesome fighting scenes as well as Connie Nielsen (who also played in Gladiator). And best of all-Kurt Russell plays an emotionless soldier. Meaning he gets paid NOT to act.
For those of you who miss the good old days of really wonderfully bad action movies, sit back, grab a beer, and watch this movie! Was this review helpful? Yes

this is a good action, rental flick. It is basically a man vs machine story - one of the classic sci-fi themes. Was this review helpful? Yes
