Blaxploitation icon Pam Grier stars as Foxy Brown, a sexy but streetwise woman whose ne'er-do-well brother Link (Antonio Fargas) is a drug dealer who owes mobsters 20,000 dollars. To get the hoods off his back, Link names Foxy's boyfriend as a government agent trying to wipe out organized crime, and the mob soon has him rubbed out. But Hell hath no fury like Foxy Brown scorned; posing as a hooker to get the inside scoop on the mob, she goes on a crusade to find out who murdered her man, and she exacts revenge with the help of a local activist group. The supporting cast includes cult figure Sid Haig as a bad guy (as usual) and Peter Brown and Kathryn Loder as a seriously kinky couple who rule the local mob. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
I think this would be a good one to watch before putting on Jackie Brown, to see how much Ms. Grier grew as an actress.
Some of this film is engrossing and fun; other parts are so immersed in '70's pop stereotypes and poor writing that it's almost embarrassing.
A mixed bag, so to speak, both pioneering what is now accepted 'strong woman' roles and on the other hand, weird, awkward directing with bad lighting to boot.
Best thing about this movie is when PG takes off her shirt... if you want Blaxploitation classics try "Superfly", "Shaft" or Pam's "Coffy" - all way better!
I loved Pam Grier in the 70's and more
so in Jackie Brown too - a fun movie
for its time and fun to watch for old
time sakes -- those clothes too
funny -- enjoy !!
Enjoyed this simple movie which can't be compared to a big production movie but in the 'B' category is fine. Reminded me of a little bits of what the 70's were like, albiet through the lens of Hollywood.
Of course I enjoyed Pam but it was fun to see Mr. Fargas of 'Starsky and Hutch' fame.
Enjoyed this movie more than most movies out today. Right from very first scene at the all night taco stand! "This is the best coffee I've ever had!"
Not the greatest acting in the world, but the enjoyment is just in reliving that time in history.
This is clearly not one of the better films in this genre; the acting was laughable. The only positive thing in this movie is the presence of the lovely Pam Grier.
