The Four Seasons (1981) Reviews

The Four Seasons (1981)
Member Rating:
The Four Seasons follows the trials and tribulations of a group of middle-aged friends during a 12-month period. Alan Alda (who also directed) and Carol Burnett play a married couple who consider themselves paragons of sensitivity and sensibility. Alda and Burnett are the instigators of a series of vacations (from New England to the Virgin Islands), which they take in the company of two other couples: Jack Weston and Rita Moreno, and Len Cariou and Sandy Dennis. Everyone's interrelationships are put to the test when Cariou and Dennis divorce, and Cariou subsequently marries the much-younger Bess Armstrong. Not too surprisingly, the comings and goings of The Four Seasons are underscored by the music of Antonio Vivaldi. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I have seen this movie several times and never tire of it. Carol Burnett and Alan Alda are great together and the story is so true to life. Of course the music is beautiful and the locations are spectactular. It's a timeless salute to friendship and love.

I watch this movie every couple of years, especially the longer I am married. It is sweet, realistic with characters that I know and love in real life. It is set beautifully with a lovely soundtrack and incredible acting.

Good movie to just sit back, relax, enjoy the music and scenary. My husband liked it better the 2nd time around. Easy story line to follow. Has a few laughs. Don't expect alot and you won't be disappointed. Of course the acting is excellent.

This has been an all-time favorite for literally decades. Superb acting by a fantastic ensemble cast. I think my hat is particularly off to Bess Armstrong. It would have been easy to get lost in performances of a cast who had been renowned probably before she was born. But her character is just as real, just as three-dimentional as the others. The cinematography and a score by Vivaldi are great polish to what would be a gem based on acting alone. This film is in a class of its own. "Are we having fun yet?"

I always liked Carol Burnett on her television comedy series but was very suprised to see what a good dramatic actress she really is. Very good dialogue in serious scenes involving Carol and her husband Alan Alda and well acted by both. Cut to the chase human emotions. Good couple movie but i'm single and i enjoyed it.

What a great classic comedy. Me and my wife get this movie every year or so. Watch it several times. Alan Alda captured the essence of human interaction with a great dose of comedy. You won't be disapointed!
