This was a great and awesome movie. Bette really played her character role from the young lady to the elderly diva very well. This movie also brought a sense of inspiration and forgiveness, as well as a proudness about being an american. Everyone should see , live and learn the values expressed in this movie...perfect rating!!

I saw this movie when it came out, and jumped at the chance to rent it recently. This movie is a timeless treasure. The perfect balance of entertaining song and dance and enlightening and heart wrenching drama. Bette never looked better...EXCEPT in the horrible ageing makeup. Wow, we are spoiled with what can be done today. Overall, I would recommend this movie to all fans of Bette and anyone who wants to step back to an elegant and poignant time in our history.

Everybody hated this movie when it came out. Still, it is fun, funny and poignant. Almost a chick flick.

Poor Bette, she put a lot of eggs in this mediocre basket. Really, it was nothing more than another venue for her to sing and strut her stuff in front of hordes of panting young men (in this case WWII GI's). The pre-opening hype was legendary, she was all over TV proclaiming it as the next great American classic. When it came out, she threw a temper tantrum over the slow box office and accused the American public of being a bunch of tasteless ignorant morons. Then when the Academy didn't give her best actress (that nomination was undeserved in my opinion) she threw another tantrum. Hopefully she has gotten over herself by now.
