I first saw this movie in 1973, when I was 15, and I came out of the theater feeling as if I had personally experienced the events in the movie right along with the characters, Steve and Curt. These weren't actors, but friends. For 112 Minutes I had experienced Modesto California in 1962. This movie is just as intense, and valid now in 2006, as it was in 1973. This is the Genius of director George Lucas. You Must see this Film! I know you'll like it. --MR Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

No film since has come close because anything like it would a "wannabe" copy. The soundtrack is spectacular, the story fun to watch, the characters representing every facet of teen life back then, from the cool kids, the jocks, and the dweebs, to the hoods keeping the police busy.
TV's "Happy Days" was a direct result of this movie with the "Fonzi" of American Graffiti represented by a dropout gearhead whose entire following rotates around his "fastest in the valley" deuce coupe. Even a young Harrison Ford is featured as the driver of a very quick black '55 Chevy. Wolf Man Jack himself (first movie for him) adds to the realism of spending a hot summer night in Southern Calfornia. Very camp movie, superb music. Definitely worth your viewing time. Not only do you see top stars in their early years, but the music montage is non-stop. It is a light-hearted, true to life look at a moment in time we have all experienced: the last night of summer with our high school pals before going our separate ways to college, marriage, army, etc. I absolutely love this movie! Frankly, from my great distance, it is mediocre film that probably doesnt deserve its high place in the lexicon of great movies ever made. Im pretty sure that as more time passes, it will slowly slip down that list. Again, Im sure its PFM for the Boomers who remember it, but for me
Nah. And lets face it
Ron Howard is no Brando. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I had heard it was a great classic, but I didn't feel it lived up to that reputation. There were parts of the movie that were quite funny and interesting, but it just didn't seem to click overall. Remember, you'll never get the two hours back if you watch this movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It's saved by a few brief moments of comic relief that come out well and overall it's not a bad movie. I just didn't think it deserved to be on the big list. I fastforwarded a lot. The only pluses were hearing the oldies music and seeing stars when they were really, really young. Makenzie Phillips from "one day at a time" looked about 14. And see Suzanne Sommers before she became famous... you barely get a glance at her. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
