One of the best movies ever. This was worth seeing twice. The story was so compelling. I think about it and still cant believe that this really happened.

If you a big fan of intelligent movies and like history, then this is a must watch movie. The plot is historically quite accurate and the dialogs are smart and witty. It is a really serious movie and a very powerful one. The performance of Matthew McConaughey and Morgan freeman are really good. And as always Anthony Hopkins is brilliant as the president John Quincy Adams. This is one of the best true stroy based movies.

Spielberg works his magic again. Superb cast that lived up to their reputations in this historical drama. The film succeeded in painting authentic pictures of a large number of important characters sharing limited screen time. The story goes beyond our own national tragedy of slavery and expresses themes of greed, exploitation, denial, freedom, justice and the meaning of community. A great exploration on the virtue and venality, the vision and short-sightedness that live side-by-side in our modern democracies. A political and moral commentary that reaches beyond the antebellum history of the United States.

I have been renting movies from Blockbuster for a long time and this movie is the best one I have ever rented. With outstanding acting coupled with an emotional true story about a very sad time in our country's history, Amistad tells the story in epic fashion. If you love historical movies that have the ability to entertain you as well as move you then rent this one.

This movie made me feel ashamed to be a White person. Tragic movie ! Great acting - and thank God that's all it was. Because I just cannot even stomach this film to see it again...

This movie is worth renting as it can be easily watched once, though it's a bit long. So, rent it and it wouldn't be a waste of time.

I wouldn't want to see this movie again. It is long and long-winded, and the extensive passages of untranslated (unsubtitled) dialogue proved confusing for me and my two children (ages 14 and 17). We enjoy intelligent and historical films; however, they must have other factors going for it. The story line was film-worthy, but the writing was laborious, and characters were not as strong as they could have been. I found Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of Adams underwritten. He is such an excellent actor; in this role, however, he didn't seem to have much to work with. I found the historical significance--especially the fact that the main character was captured in Sierra Leone--powerful, especially since I just read A Long Way Gone, an autobiographical book about the boy soldiers in Sierra Leone. I appreciated the additional insight into the history of this troubled land.
