The movie is kinda dull to be honest. It's a wannabe The Shining set in space. Only Sam Neill is no Jack. Don't believe the hype. A few disturbing scenes but nothing worth the price of admission.

the story could have been in some low budget scifi channel movie. that is what level the story is on. the movie is all shock. the best horror movies actually have a purpose behind them. this one does not. i cant believe this movie script gets read and some exec thinks this would make a good movie of any kind. if you like mindless gore you might like it. i think its safe to say the smartest people will avoid all together just in case it is as bad as i say it is.

The story in this film had so much potential. Sadly the filmmakers never fully realize it, and it ends up having the convincibility of a 50's sci-fi with cool effects. You are never told "what" is causing the events on the ship or why the crew members are behaving as they are. There is no reason to believe the "force" behind the events is based on intelligence or energy. It's not asking much to have a reason for why I should be scared. What moments are geniunely 'scary' are ones almost directly lifted from "Alien" down to the actions themselves. The only difference is the alien is replaced by some mysterious (and ambiguous) force. The film looks great. But story and action-wise it never rises above the obvious.

A terrible execution at an awesome concept. Event Horizon had the potential to be great, but that dream was lost when the director traded in a brillant concept for on-screen gore.
