I saw both versions and I like this one better. Steve Martin made the movie. I would recommend it.

Yes, this is a funny movie. Steve Martin is at his best. However, why do filmmakers always have to tell these types of stories from the standpoint of wealthy upper middle class families? This is really the story of two spoiled, coddled brats who decide to get married. Daddee is going to pay for EVERYTHING of course, because he wants his daughter to be princess for a day. Most parents would have to take a second or third mortgage on their home to pay for the lavish wedding festivities that these two ingrates receive. Both "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "The Wedding Singer" show how the other half lives, which to me, even as comedies, are a lot more realistic.

Bad movie. Just say no. The original version with Spencer Tracy completely overshadows this poor remake. In the original movie the humor was in the simple truths that Spencer Tracy had to face. Getting older, losing his daughter, the burden of the expenses of the wedding. Everything seemed to land on his shoulders. We sympathized with him. Steve Martin's character was just an idiot. He suffered the burden of what was going on while everyone around him treated him with disdain. He was treated like an insensitive idiot. His only option was to metaphorically go out to the woodshed and cleave off his manhood, and go along with the womenfolk. Hard to be sympathetic for a character that's treated like a dumb chauvanist. How dare he have his own feelings and concerns! Kind of annoying. Especially unbelievable was the actress who played the mom. Not beleivable at all. Ugh

I love love love this movie! It gives a true insight into how a dad feels watching his little girl grow up, and it's hilarious. It's a great movie for fathers and daughters to watch together.

This is truly a great movie. We have watched it over and over. As if Steve Martin isn't enough, Martin Short is absolutely hysterical. We quote this and the sequel DAILY!!
