It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is one of those movies that is a must see. So much of American psyche is attached to having a job. Finding a mate, starting a family, right college for kids, respect of your friends and family, etc. As it becomes harder to find jobs, those values are vanishing and with it what defined core of most men.

This was my second viewing and even though it was a long time between viewing, I enjoyed it all over again. Douglas was mad as hell and was not going to take it anymore. You will enjoy his counters with life.

This is always an excellent movie. I loved the action of it and the suspense. If you haven't seen it get it.

Still powerful nearly two decades after its release, "Falling Down" is worth a second look and a must see if it was before your time. A study in seething rage, this film gave Michael Douglas an all-too-rare opportunity to show the intensity that was the hallmark of his father's career. Balancing Douglas is the always brilliant Robert Duvall with great support from three talented actresses: Barbara Hershey, Tuesday Weld, and Rachel Ticotin ("Con Air", "Total Recall")

Definitely not one of Michael Douglas' best. He doesn't even look cute in this one. O.k. movie,

I wasn't impressed. Michael Douglas is always awesome, but the story line was just so-so

This movie didn't resonate with me as much as when I first saw it as a teenager in 1992. Maybe it's ust me but life seems to be easier now than in the 90's. Still a solid and entertaining movie with interesting ideas.

Rather bizarre movie. Not sure I really understood why it was made. Kinda surprised Michael Douglas agreed to star in it - he is much better than this.
