Despite the great cast including Christopher Walken and Bridget Fonda - this movie pretty much stinks on ice...the only reason I could barely stay awake was Walken. A young man who has the stigmata and healing touch leaves a Franciscan order in Brazil and works in a dry-out center for alcoholics. Sounds fairly interesting right? Not - I THINK this was supposed to be a comedy with a message -had neither. As dry and dull as plain toast. Skip it.

I only watched the movie because I recently read the book. I am quite a fan of Elmore Leonard's work. I don't think the movie explains the characters well, especially Tom Arnold's character. A key part of the story concerns Catholic "fundamentalists" reacting to the modernization of the litergy. Most viewers today have no idea this was so controversial 40 years ago.
