Won several awards in Australia. The subject matter sounds familiar but this story is imaginative. The film presents an unwavering point of view from the characters themselves, taking you all over the place emotionally. There are a few sore spots here and there that make you nervous. Stay the course. The true-to-life surf scene atmosphere, music, and backdrop brought me right back to my growing up in Southern California. Australia is so similar to California. I guarantee the story won't go exactly as you expect. There are some surprises. Heath Ledger has a small, yet crucial part which he does very well. This really is quite a unique film. The rock music is great! There is a casual feel to the level of effort in many parts of the film. It seem to go with the seaside culture and the nature of the characters. I highly recommend this. If you enjoy an emotionally affecting movie this is it. If you are a squirrel, forget it.
