Unfortunately, the acting is "hammy" and the music is really annoying. John Carpenter is/was a decent director, but he needs to realize that sometimes he cannot do the job as well as other people: he should have left the screenplay to someone else and given the music to John Williams.
I think this film could be successfully re-made and be much more effective than the original: today's special effects, a better lead actor (without the eye-patch, I mean seriously, how can a guy fly and shoot so well without depth percention?), an extensively revised script, and a better soundtrack. Sure it's easy to pick on this film, such as casio keyboard music, bad lighting, corny characters, bad research on future devices (still using cassettes), etc.,etc. But what really makes this movie ... Read MoreSure it's easy to pick on this film, such as casio keyboard music, bad lighting, corny characters, bad research on future devices (still using cassettes), etc.,etc. But what really makes this movie is Kurt Russell as, "don't call me Plissken, call me Snake". Also a lot of good one-liners and not just with Snake. It has memorable characters such as, Cabbie, Brain, and the tough villain "The Duke". And this movie has a great ending. I really like both this movie and Escape from LA. John Carpenter is a great director and Kurt Russell in long hair and leather is always a must see! WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

When I first saw this movie during its opening weekend, I couldn't believe how great it was !! 26-years later, I rented it again - - and realized how UTTERLY STUPID it was !! WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
