The story is based upon the June, 1985 hijacking of a TWA jet, where passengers were held at gun-point by terrorists in Beirut, Lebanon. The film re-enacts various real life incidents from the crisis -- an American serviceman is beaten to death, a terrorist holds a gun to the pilot's head as the pilot is being questioned by reporters -- while depicting the tension aboard the plane and the agony of the passengers, held under the threat of death by the terrorists. The Delta Force, a crack anti-terrorist commando group, is preparing to rescue the passengers. If you haven't seen this movie, you may not understand people's obsession with Chuck Norris. It's easily his best move and it actually tells a good story. It starts out fairly slowly with a plane hijacking, but once the Delta Force and Mr. Norris get involved things pick up. Good if you like or miss the action movies of the 80's and early 90's. Lots of guns and stuff getting blown up!

I only saw part of this on cable so I rented the movie and it was quite good. Knowing it was a true story made it more interesting for me to see the whole movie.

I loved this movie as a kid, but even though it delivers the goods action-wise, it's more or less braindead. There are so many points at which the terrorists could have killed dozens of Americans but they never pull the trigger. Of course, I'd be scared crapless of Chuck Norris with a rocket launching motorbike too! I'd forgotten all the B-grade Jews who showed up for roles in the film: Joey Bishop and Martin Balsam ROCK!!! Shelley Winters appears along with Robert Vaughn, George Kennedy, and the guy from Finian's Rainbow. Who would have thunk it. But the Oscar should have gone to Robert Forster for making himself into an Islamic terrorist. Great acting all around. Lee Marvin looks like he forgot to take his Geritol, though.
