This movie is a complex emotional drama that is frequently harsh and could have been a dull soap opera. What raises the level on this one is excellent acting. Portman portrays a woman who is outwardly often hostile and aggressive, and it is not until late in the film we learn of her inner turmoil. Lisa Kudrow is great as the bitter ex-wife who uses every opportunity to inflict harm on her replacement. Cohen and Tahan are wonderful as father and son in a complex personal drama. Without the acting, this would have been an exhausting melodrama. It's still not an easy watch, but it is compelling.

I liked this film. Good drama about the life of a newly re-married man who has a son resistant to a new mother figure in his life and the couple's efforts to start a new family. Worth renting.

I thought this movie was excellent. I guess since I'm a step parent you can appreciate this movie more. Both Portman and Kudrow play a great role along with the young Charlie Tahan as the son.
