The old saying about "this is where the rubber meets the road" takes on a new and sinister meaning in this black comedy from filmmaker Quentin Dupieux. An old tire appears in a California desert, and under its own power it begins rolling down the road, stopping and starting as it pleases. The notion that the tire can operate under its own power isn't half as remarkable as its other talent -- the tire has telekinetic abilities and can make things explode at will, including human heads. The evil tire goes on a killing spree after its affections for a beautiful woman (Roxane Mesquida) are thwarted, and local lawman Lt. Chad (Stephen Spinella) steps forward to investigate. Meanwhile, a handful of people aware of the tire and its actions are watching it from a safe distance until they're poisoned by a mysterious villain; one of them (Wings Hauser) manages to survive, and is looking for some revenge of his own. Rubber was an official selection at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

One word that came to mind while watching this was: random. The film explores a "No reason" idea where, in cinema, sometimes one could ask "Why did that happen?"...the answer being "No reason." I won't spoil anything, but the bizarreness of this experimental film goes beyond a killer tire coming to life and, personally, I think it takes a special type of mind to create entertainment of this kind and there are so many random and interesting things in this that one wonders about the gears turning in Dupieux's mind. From reading the other reviews, it seems this is not for everyone, but no film, book, painting, etc, is made for everyone. I appreciate a good oddity...like Sifl & Olly...or Strong Bad...so this film delivered for me. The cinematography and soundtrack were also notable. If you end up liking like the film, then interview on the DVD with the director is a fun watch.

I like movies that are Different from the rest. Im tired of watching the same movies and everyone knows what is going to happen in the end. You know like Zombie Movies, Friday the 13th, Wrong Turn etc You seen 1 zombie movie you seen them all their not any different from the rest. Rubber is worth watching if you like Wierd/Funny/Stupid/Horror all mixed together. The movie is a mix comedy/horror combined. You might find this movie Boring/Dull but I thought it was Funny watching people's Heads BLOW UP! I like movies where people use their imagination. Something different that nobody has thought of yet. Think about it when was the last time you seen a really good Vampire Movie other than Underworld or From Dusk Till Dawn or better yet when was the last time you see a good Werewolf movie other than Stephen Kings Silver Bullet? Don't say Twilight. That sucked compare to Silver Bullet. Rubber is a Stupid Movie with no plot line but there was something about it I liked.

Don't get the wrong idea... I didn't hate this movie because it "wasn't my kind of movie" - In fact, I saw the trailer, and new I had to watch it, because I love quirky horror movies with a little black comedy thrown in, and this seemed to be right up my alley. On actually watching the movie, I was very disappointed. I was conflicted between wanting it to be over because it was so awful, and not wanting it to be over, so that something would happen to make me feel I did not waste over an hour watching it. It isn't so much that the events were not believeable, I mean, it's about a killer tire, for crying out loud... It just wasn't really very funny, the acting was terrible to a point of being distracting, and there wasn't much of a plot.
