Have seen this movie three times now. Loved the development and dynamics of the 5 young friends. One brave, one not-so-brave, one artistic type, a little romance and an unrequited puppy love. Besides the sub-plot of Jackson's Mom's death and the fathers bitterness towards Alices Dad because of it. Yet in the end they team up to save the kids from the real star of the show. What a multi-layered fantasy movie! So many relationships intertwined, along with a fascinating basic story line about a shape-shifting alien's desire to go home. I'm sure I will rent it again. It is a fun movie, without being too alien-esque. Lot of human emotions being exchanged, young and old. Recommended viewing.

who was the target audience for this hokum? little kids and three year olds? i actually thought this movie would have some appeal for adults. boy was i naive. instead it was just a rehash of old Spielberg kiddie fare like 'E.T.' and 'Goonies'. the whole thing got so schmaltzy it makes Disney's 'Princess & the Frog' look like hard core adult entertainment. i didn't like the whole cutie-pie 'E.T.' premise either. i didn't sympathize with the alien monster at all. i mean if he was supposed to be so civilized and advanced and sympathetic, why did he eat people and bite off their heads and stuff. i thought the alien was a menace to the known universe and should have been destroyed.
