This is one of those really great 70's movies that unfortunately not a lot of people have seen. Warren Oates is great as an always cool guy who carries out his mission no matter what obstacles come his way. Shot in a gritty style kinda like El Mariachi. Peckinpah keeps true to his ultra-violent reputation by including awesome shoot-out scenes, in particular one with a Thompson subby. How can you go wrong with that?

Not one of Peckinpah's best. Seems like it was made on a very low budget and does not travel well. The Warren Oates character is very interesting, but the movie devolves into a revenge shoot out. The Elita character is also well played. Worth a look if you are a Peckinpah fan.

a crime lord's daughter gets pregnant. her dad hires a killer to hunt down the lothario, and bring back his head. the loser who takes the case has the cards stacked against him. i regret renting this. i thought it was a "cult classic". it is not. it is slow, boring, the acting is sub-par, the production value is cheap. made some news in '74 when it came out. but for a pro like peckinpah, this is amateurish. maybe he was drunk (again). hardly compares to grittier, dark tales that have come out since (once upon a time in mexico, pulp fiction - made by men with less money and more talent). warren oates is a poor lead. his skills are too weak to carry the plot. isela vega probably hoped this would launch her career. all it did was show a few viewers what nice breasts she had. i like the premise, and love the title. but it fails to satisfy. not worth viewing unless you are a peckinpah fan. a dark, depressing story told poorly by a miserable, angry man who was past his prime.
