The Rug Cop (2006)

The Rug Cop (2006)
Member Rating:
Cult Japanese director Minoru Kawasaki satirizes Japanese cop shows of the 1970s with this unhinged spoof concerning a chrome domed cop with a lethal projectile toupee. Officer Genda has just been transferred to a new precinct, and the timing couldn't have been better; a powerful group of terrorists have hijacked a valuable shipment of uranium, and now they're attempting to blackmail the authorities to the tune of five billion yen. Thankfully for the frightened public, Genda isn't the only officer on the force with a few tricks up his sleeve, because backing him up on his dangerous mission are champion eater Detective Fatty, handsomely endowed Detective Big Dick, diminutive weightlifter Detective Shorty, and the impeccably suave Mr. Handsome. Perhaps with all of their powers combined, this skilled team of cops can take down the terrorists attempting to hold the entire country hostage. When the hair starts to fly, the bad guys will drop like flies. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

If you're thinking this is a Japanese version of "Sledge Hammer" or "Police Squad" that will cause you to bust out into continuous, hilarious fits ... think again. The overall theme was similar to a "Three Stooges" movie without the serious characters. Though it's described as a spoof of 70's cop shows, there wasn't one thing funny. This is a low budget, sophomoric, slapstick comedy with poor acting and even worse writing that criminally attempts to steal 79 minutes of your life. It looks like a ridiculously bad 30 minute sit-com that was stretched out to fill a 90 minute time slot. While the movie doesn't have a rating, the movie could pass as "PG-13", due solely to the presence of a single character. The audio defaults to stereo. As for extras, there's a trailer for the movie, a "Making Of" featurette (30:41 min), a "Press Conference" featurette (8:31 min) and a "Introductions By Cast & Director" featurette (14:35 min). Not recommended.
