Doctor Who: The Five Doctors (1983)

Doctor Who: The Five Doctors (1983)
Member Rating:
Doctor Who celebrated its 20th anniversary with the 90-minute special "The Five Doctors." The life of the present Doctor (Peter Davison) is jeopardized when his four previous incarnations -- played by William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, and Tom Baker -- are taken out of time by an illegal Time Scoop. Even worse, the five doctors are confronted by a seemingly endless series of past enemies, included Daleks, Cybermen, and Yetis. The climax takes place in the Forbidden Zone on Gallifrey, where the instigator of the aforementioned time-scooping forces the five doctors to engage in the potentially deadly Game of Rassilon. Can any of the doctors save themselves -- and if not, will robot dog K-9 come galloping to the rescue? The late William Hartnell appeared only in clips from the second-season episode "Invasion of Earth: Flashpoint"; he was replaced in the body of the 20th anniversary special by Richard Hurndall. Written by Terrance Dicks, "The Five Doctors" was first presented in America on November 23, 1983, two days before its British TV debut. Since that time, it has been reedited into a four-part cliffhanger for syndication. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) and his companions (Janet Fielding, Mark Strickson) are enjoying a quiet vacation, when the Doctor suddenly begins to sense his previous incarnations being ripped out of time! Who, or what, is pulling the five Doctors out of their respected timelines, and why are they being trapped in the mysterious Death Zone on their homeworld of Gallifrey? More importantly, will they survive the onslaught of a horde of their most dangerous enemies long enough to find out?----- Fantastic TV movie that showcases the Doctor in his first five incarnations. Richard Hurndall gives a spot on performance as the 1st Doctor (filling in for the deceased William Hartnell), and Anthony Ainley is delightfully evil as the Doctor's friend-turned-foe, the diabolical 'Master.' If you haven't seen this landmark installment in the series, rent it now!

This is a must see for all Doctor who fans. All of the first 5 doctors are in the story. Even William Hartnell who at the time had been long since gone is shown in a brief clip. All the doctors regenerations must fight many of his well known enemies. The Daleks, Cybermen , yet and even the Master are pitted agaisnt the Doctor or whould i say Doctors. This is an especially good story since the 1st three men to play the good Doctor are no longer alive.

Always loved Classic Doctor Who when I was growing up. This episode in particular. Although, renting it, it wasn't as good as I had remembered. Still a must see for all Doctor Who fans. I was sad to see that William Hartnell's role was played by someone else and they didn't have all of his mannerisms down. And also the fourth doctor is only shown in clips. Also the Daleks didn't play a large enough role. Loved the Cybermen. I think they should have a similiar episode for the new Doctor Who. Perhaps even bring the granddaughter back as a companion. She could reincarnate into a hot young woman and take over when the doctor passes on after his 12th regeneration.
