Member Rating:
Preston Sturges' Unfaithfully Yours is a typically witty and wild screwball comedy starring Rex Harrison as a symphony conductor named Alfred de Carter who is convinced his wife (Linda Darnell) is having an affair. During one of his concerts, Alfred begins planning three different ways of solving the problem -- including murder -- setting each to a different classical piece. Sturges' script and direction are lively and the actors are perfectly cast, capable of wringing all the humor, both physical and verbal, out of the story. Despite the artistic success of the film, Unfaithfully Yours was unsuccessful at the time of its release, yet it was well-regarded by critics and film buffs. It was remade in 1984, featuring Dudley Moore in the lead role. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

I would love to write a review of this excellent movie, but you morons keep mistakenly sending me the 1984 version with Dudley Moore in the lead. Three consecutive bobbles so far, and counting.

Preston Sturges - is there anyone else who can write such witty, wise and wonderful banter - and who knew that Rex Harrison had such slapstick funny bone! My husband who says things like - oh, it's in black and white - actually thought this was a hoot! He turned to me within the first 10 minutes and said "you know this has some funny bits" Halleluiah! we can actually enjoy an old movie together! Linda Darnell is gorgeous and the movie is wonderfully comical in its look at jealousy, letting our imaginations get the best of us, and the fatasy wife who adores the "gifted" artist while overlooking his mercurial moods.
