While the movie has a low-budget appearance, the message will definitely make you look past it, if you give it a chance. An essential movie for every parent to watch with their young teen(s). I would even recommend this movie to be shown in junior and senior high health classes. The message is clear in the story line which is based on facts. Also, the special scenes at the end are very revealing and tie the entire thing together. A great educational tool with a well-written story line.

In reality this movie is a love story threaded through a beautiful drama an important conversation about living with the lasting consequences of our decisions and trying to shoulder the responsibility of making things better. The characters are very well written and it's quite easy to forgive the occasional weaknesses in acting. Queen Latifah steals many of her scenes and provides a powerful cord that drives the movie. I truly hope she is proud of her work here. I would not recommend this movie to teens given some of the explicit conversations but would love to see an edited version released for educational purposes. This movie successfully models the hurt family and community can compound on those struggling among us.

Outstanding message. This movie did not appear to have the big budget but it had a message that crossed all lines of age/finanical. It talked about real life situations and what a large price we can pay for making poor decisions. I love that it centered around a family that had some serious problems and was trying hard to make things right the best way they knew how.
