There was nothing special about Lake City. If you cleaned up the language it could very well be a Lifetime TV movie. Sissy Spacek in a rural southern small town type movie does not necessary make it a good film. It took a long time to explain the past history between the mother and son. It was an issue that was resolved with a few sentences and tears that could have been done years ago. I was satisfied with the solution to the drug problem but there were far to many other plot lines that needed an ending. What happened to the money? Was the house sold? Who was moving and who was staying? Who was going to have custody of the child? Hints at possible relationships between Spacek and Carradine and Garity and Romijn were completely missing in the ending. This picture needed another 5 minutes to tie up loose ends. I just didn't get it and cannot recommend this film.
