Although beautifully filmed, this was very disappointing. It was like watching a play-the story and scenes kept bouncing around and I had to keep the subtitles on so I could understand what they were saying. There was so much dialog, at times I had to back it up so I could actually watch the "action". It is helpful to be familiar with a number of Rembrandt's works, so you'll recognize when the actors pose in familiar positions. I would not recommend watching this film if there are children or adults that are easily offended. The language is crude and the lives of many of the characters are bleak and sexually perverse.
