The special effects for violence, the costumes, all were very colorful and graphic. Helen Mirren wast terrific as Elizabeth - strong, yet tragic, too. Part I is no good without Part II so see both.

Great stuff - this version is miles better than the more recent version starring Cate Blanchet and a great way to be introduced to the politics and personalities of a major historical turning point.

Loved this adaptation of the life of Queen Elizabeth I. If you enjoy the era, you will absolutely be inspired and enthralled by this movie. The costumes, make-up, set design, location, everything was spectacular and really spot on to time period. Mirren did an excellent job, as well as the rest of the cast. Brilliant.
