Synopsis of Leave It to Beaver: Lumpy Rutherford
Tormented by the neighborhood bully, Beaver (Jerry Mathers) and Wally (Tony Dow) are fascinated with the story woven by dad Ward (Hugh Beaumont) about the practical joke he pulled on the kid who was bullying him back in school. Without telling Ward, the boys set up the same practical joke (involving trash-cans and trip-wires) to get even with their tormentor -- only to accidentally target the bully's father, who happens to be Ward's business partner Fred Rutherford (Richard Deacon). That's right, TV fans -- the big bad bully in this episode is none other than Clarence "Lumpy" Rutherford (Frank Bank), in his first series appearance. It wouldn't be until the second season that Lumpy would develop into the harmless oaf that we'd come to know and love. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
