Once you understand that this film is a send-up, you realize the filmmakers have produced one of the cleverest fright film parodies ever made. The European version has scenes missing from the American version. It is a missing opening scene, that sets the viewer up for a whopper of a tale. Nonetheless, once you realize the film is a put-on, its humor becomes apparent, as does the fear. The last 3rd of the film is truly scary. The wholesale slaughter of teens is imaginatively done. The screenwriting is outstanding and the directing capable. Except for one adult figure, the acting is near the top and that is part of the directors brilliance. When you view the pic, sit back, look for the irony, appreciate the parody and have a wonderfully entertaining ride. A review in the prestigious Film-Review Journal summed it up best when it said, "Don't kill yourself taking this picture seriously and you will enjoy it so much that you will watch it again." I agree!
