I know, ..as a guy, i expected a war/bloody/gore epic like the movie:- "The Last of the Mohicans"....not even close, but i gotta say it, i loved the romantic side of it..it was..uummmm different... too bad i didnt see it when it came out.... Oh well, my gf will definitelty be watching it sooner or later....Canada seems to have been a colonial time era hot bed for awesome stroytelling....Totally Recommended.....enjoy !!

BEWARE! This is NOT an adventurous WAR MOVIE, rather it is a chick flick disguised as a war movie. Guys... RUN! RUN AWAY! Okay the story's okay, though it moves all too slow, and too many of the characters do way to many annoyingly stupid things. There are many sad mother/daughter scenes, but the reveal at the end is the most touching. Though this movie had some merit, I gave it only a half star because of the blatant "false" adverstising. Just look at the cover of the DVD, nearly every picture shows the cool battle stuff that you think will be central to this movie. Boy will you be disappointed when you learn that 99% of the stuff pictured on the cover, amounts to about 1% of the action of the movie.

The good stuff: Historical/political story setting, lavish costumes & sets, beautifully shot, many well-known stars! The problem: it was not well written. What a shame! Actors did an admirable job, considering what they had to work with (the leads had great chemistry, were very convincing and, really, saved the movie). Dialogue & plot felt contrived and choppy; characters did and said things that seemed senseless and unmotivated (ie; the "good" & trusted character whose actions determined the course of the movie did nothing to right his wrongs nor was he ever confronted in any meaningful way by those he affected). Overall, for me, the story wasn't satisfying. Also, "Battle of the Brave" (title on the DVD), should've had at least one battle scene! :) Despite its flaws, I liked this movie for the good acting, the main characters, the sets & costumes, the "feel" of the movie and little details. 2 stars for the writing & 4 stars for everything else.
