    This movie shows us how wonderful it could be to be in a rich family in pre-Castro Cuba. Not exactly a surprise.... Purports to be a strong proponent of the arts and of artists, but only shows brief glimpses of these. The romantic leads are attractive people but had no spark. Bottom line is the script seemed like a Cliff's Notes version of a very long novel.

    Having grown up in Havana through my Elementary years, I found this movie rather fascinating. I had always heard of names like Mayer Lanski, the Mafia boss who controlled many of the casinos in Havana, and Fangio, the famous racecar driver in those Grand Prix races along Havana's Malecon waterfront. The nightlife was, of course, something very special although as a kid I never experienced it. This was a very entertaining movie, seen through the eyes of the more privileged and more politically active and reactive, although I found it a bit too long in places and therefore could have used more editing which showed Andy Garcia's passion for this story and directorial learning curve.

    This is an excellent drama with some of the most talented actors, such as Andy Garcia and Dustin Hoffman. I was not sure of Bill Murray role other than to lighten up a serious story line. It is an informative depiction of the Cuban revolution. I highly recommend this movie.
