A man searching for the truth about his wife's killer learns more than he wanted to know about her own private story in this powerful drama. Harry Cain (John Turturro) works as a security guard at a large shopping mall in Wisconsin. Harry's life takes a sudden and disturbing left turn when his wife, Kate (Deborah Kara Unger), is shot to death in the mall's parking facility. Devastated by his wife's passing, Harry begins combing over every scrap of evidence he can find in hopes of tracking down the gunman and reviewing hours of videotape from the mall's surveillance system. One night, Harry has a vision in which he sees Kate walking out of the house across the street; he breaks into the abandoned home to investigate, and finds some photographs that may lead him to his wife's murderer. However, the more Harry learns about Kate, and as he travels to Montana in search of a possible culprit, Harry begins to learn just how much he never knew about Kate and her life.     OK, among all of the negative reviews here, mine won't make much difference but I actually liked this film. I think John Turturro is a terrific actor and can pull off being in almost every scene, some without dialogue or action, but with the suspense slowly building throughout. And I'm not giving anything away to say that the ending is not definitive because everyone else on here said so as well. My husband and I came up with a lot of theories, though, and any movie that you can discuss afterwards is fun.

    this is a disappointing movie. first, the title makes no sense. there is nothing fearful about the story, and the "x" is unexplained. second, john turturro is a good actor. i have liked him in "mr. deeds" with adam sandler and in "o brother, where art thou?" with george clooney. i had hoped he would really shine as the lead in this one but he has little to work with. the directing and writing is minimalist where less said is better and long, empty stretches of scenes with slience or atmospheric music is supposed to draw us in and allow tension to mount. unfortunatelty, it just makes for a boring movie. i shut it off after an hour which was very generous of me. third, the pace was too slow, not enough action, not enough dramatic turning points. fourth, nothing happened to make you care about any of the characters. therefore, you lose interest in the story. poor pacing and poor character development. skip it.

    This movie wasted a hour and a half of my time. I kept hoping that I the storyline would be resolved by the end of the film but of course it was not! My advice is NOT to waste your time with Fear X.
