This is a fascinating film that will keep you intrigued by its simplicity and elegant story telling. It begins at the end, and ends, well, not quite the way you think it did. It is not the "usual" romance, and the ending is truly a surprise, even for a movie sleuth such as myself. I recommend it to anyone who appreciates scenery, music, life and a good movie. You will want to watch it more than once and learn more about Patricia Kaas' music.

A film is supposed to tell a story -- transport you. Doing it right takes a balanced blend of story, characters and media. As I watched this film I was amazed at how well the stage setting, photography, editing and music carried the story. The characters hit the mark, especially Irons and Kaas who play cosmopolitan characters faced with the loss of identity and memory caused by some hidden brain deterioration. What is a dream, and what is reality. What is love and what are the true characters of our players? We learn that along with the cast and are left with memories of our own to ponder. A wonderful film for the thoughtful watcher.

I disagree with the reviewer who said the ending would surprise you. It ends exactly the way you expect it to, and exactly the way it leads you to think if you've been paying attention. That being said, I still enjoyed the movie. The dream sequences became confusing after a while, though. And now that I think about it, I'm not sure if the ending was really the ending or just a dream...
