Have not read the book but i love the film, as easton ellissaid the performances of downey jr and spader were eceptional, with the character and realness brought to julian (downey jr) and rip (spader) the film was brilliantly made by the cinematography and the portrayals of all the characters, the audience do get attached to the film and leave feeling nostalgia about it, or atleast abit sad as you would with the movie, the soundtracks also, execute perfectly what the story is trying to show, everything about this movie, make it seem real, although most of the plotlines did happen in 1980s los angeles, exellently cast movie, for 80s fanatics or a big robert downey jr fanatic as myself this movie is worth watching, if you are one who easily gets attached to the characters in movies then this movie will make you cry, a sad, truthfull movie about americas teenagers and there strife to be successeful but ending in failure, this movie is an 80s gem and should be more widely recognised as one
