Gilles Paquet-Brenner's psychologically-tinged, French-language action thriller Les Jolies Choses (AKA Pretty Things, 2001) stars Marion Cotillard in a rare double role as identical twins Lucie and Marie. Lucie, who works as a white-hot fashion model, exhibits a dominant, often controlling, "Type A" personality, whereas Marie consistently projects a backward, reserved, laconic and unassuming attitude. When Lucie receives a covetable French recording contract, a significant problem stands in her way: the inability to sing. This movie was fantastic. Certainly not an American thriller but that was my favorite part. I would call this movie very interesting. Even at a younger age, Marion Cotillard was a great screen actor.

Lots of sex, drug and twisted characters in a decadent world. Not all French movies are bad, but when they are bad, they look like that. Don't bother waisting your time. I guess the acting is okay, but the plot is not very interesting - yet very depressing, the characters are sad, twisted and hopeless, and the sex scenes are ... too visual. I did watch it to the end thinking all along that I would find some redeeming value... None whatsoever! I waisted my time.
