LEANNE D.

This films starts out slowly and darkly enough, and then the plot proceeds to accelerate, and then the director subtly shifts our sympathies from one character who we thought was the protagonist to another, and then the film reveals all we thought to be false, and then the classic noir finale. This film also features an amazing set of long takes, including one in the police station that is more than eight minutes long and includes three 360 degree turns of the camera. Powerful story, shifting viewpoints, betrayals, violence, copious unexplained backstory, beautiful women, this Melville has it all.
