In this loose reinvention of the classic Bram Stoker novel, the Count (Gerard Butler) is transplanted to the present day, after a brief prologue where Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer) captures Dracula and conceals him in Carfax Abbey, where he remains for many years. In the future, Carfax Abbey is contained within an office building where Van Helsing's been using Dracula's blood to stay alive in order to guard the evil secret. After a band of thieves, led by the malevolent Marcus (Omar Epps), attempts to seize Dracula's remains, the Count escapes to New Orleans, where Mary Van Helsing (Justine Waddell) currently resides. Mary is eventually persuaded to fight Dracula with the aid of a reluctant Simon(Jonny Lee Miller), one of Van Helsing's employees, all while trying to escape the newly-made vampires of Marcus' gang and a zealous TV reporter (Jeri Ryan). The film also features Lochlyn Munro, Jennifer Esposito, Vitamin C, and Danny Masterson in supporting roles.

    If you've read the other reviews you find that most don't like this film. I on the other hand loved it. It's a whole new telling of the Dracula story. With new reasons for why Dracula is who and what he is. I also enjoyed the cast. I had forgotted the Gerard Butler played Dracula and all the others Christopher Plummer, Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone), Jeri Ryan (7of9 from Star Trek Voyager), Danny Masterson (That's 70's Show) Omar Epps (House) Jennifer Esposito, the whole cast was awsome to see in one film(maybe I'm biased) I have to admit there is some predictable "jump" scares. In answer to some I think the film took it self as seriosly as it need to without fooling it's self into thinking it was more than it was... if that's a little confusing... hey check it out for yourself !!

    Movie is so slow paced. It's sad because the cinamatography really seems pretty good. Another take on the story of Dracula. Nice casting.

    Like many others here the movie started out on kind of a stupid note. I did not like Christopher Plummers character - his acting was not up to his usual par. The gore in the beginning was silly and seemed irrelavant, but the plot improved after all the gratuitous violence usually associated with vampire movies was taken care of - in fact that is the way it seemed, that they threw it in there because they thought it had to be in there, but they wanted to get it out of the way. The "twist" was interesting and I thought the female lead was very good along with Butler - the rest of the supporting actors left something to be desired.
