Der Erdnussman (1992)

Der Erdnussman (1992)
Eddy, who still lives in the part of what used to be East Berlin that he grew up in, puts up billboards for a living. His entertainment is to go home after work, pop a brew, and go through the channels more or less randomly on his television set. He gets a job as a sales personality, portraying "Shaky, the Peanut Man," and suddenly he becomes a kind of celebrity, appearing on patronizing television game shows, acting in commercials, peering out over the city on the kinds of posters he used to put up for a living. This drama is said to be, at least in part, a political allegory about life in the new unified Germany for former East Germans. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
