Member Rating:
This big-budget science fiction adventure centers on a final battle between good and evil for control of the world. In the year 3000, Earth is ruled by the Psyclos, a vicious alien race of which Terl (John Travolta) is a member, that has laid waste to the planet, killed the majority of the population, and stripped Earth of its valuable resources. Pockets of resistance remain among the surviving humans; Jonnie "Goodboy" Tyler (Barry Pepper) is one such rebel, living in hiding in the mountains near Boulder, CO. Eventually, Johnny begins organizing like-minded humans for a final stand against the Psyclos. The film is based on the novel by L. Ron Hubbard, the science fiction author also known as the founder of the Church of Scientology; it covers only the first half of the book, saving the remainder for a possible sequel. Battlefield Earth also stars Forest Whitaker, Kim Coates, and Kelly Preston. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Horrible... just horrible. Big Hollywood flatulence in the face of paying audiences. Pffft! The stink of this movie takes awhile to go away. Years later, I still catch whiffs of it. PU! What a stinker! Bad script, incredibly bad acting, rounded out by even worse production and direction. Usually, in movies this bad, one can at least goof on the stupidness. This movie, however, is so bad, I couldn't even do that. I sat, dumbstruck... waiting for any scrap of entertainment that I could point to... and justify the money I spent to see it. It was a fool's errand. Personally, I think that 1/2 into production, they realized just how bad it was going to be... and decided to make it so bad that audiences would be stupified, and unable to demand refunds. What a scam! If you want to be, or like to be insulted, rent this video. It WILL insult you.

This is the most upsetting experience I've ever had in a theater. The only time the audience applauded was when someone fell down the steps.

YUCK! John Travolta's acting was SO over the top that it made me cringe. I would not recommend this movie to anyone. It's a real stinker.
