God Bless the Child (1988)
Member Rating:
A young mother and her daughter end up on the streets in this grim made-for-television movie. Mare Winningham stars as Theresa Johnson, a young mother whose life falls apart when she finds herself suddenly single, unemployed and homeless. With nowhere to turn, Theresa and her daughter Hillary (Grace Johnston) drift through the social system, wandering from shelter to shelter with little hope for the future. Gripping in its portrayal of the cycle of poverty, the film offers no simple solutions -- much like real life. ~ Bernadette McCallion, Rovi

This movie is a definite MUST SEE in this this day and age of materialism and entitlement-mindedness. This movie shows what many people face and many don't want or can't find the empathy in their hearts to talk about. Mare Winningham is stellar and the girl who plays Hillary is an amazing young actress.

What would be your first thought? A woman on the streets with her young child, facing the poverty and loss of employment. Living in shelters and trying to keep up the raising of her daughter, Mere Winningham faces these decisions and many more as she struggles to find a home. In the end her decision is heartfelt and very saddening. This is a must see film for anyone who love true-life dramas.
